Translating policy into action is an ongoing focus of the SCS Project, and essential for meeting the SCS Project objective of establishing a regionally co-ordinated approach to action aimed at reversing environmental degradation trends in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand. As such, the fisheries component, led by the Regional Working Group for the Fisheries Component (RWG-F), is developing mechanisms to effect the integration of fisheries and habitat management, as well as establishing examples of best practice in the management of the environmental aspects of regional coastal and marine fisheries.

Specifically, the RWG-F is working at both national and regional levels to promote the guidance provided by the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (CCRF) and the related ASEAN-SEAFDEC Regional Guidelines for Responsible Fisheries in Southeast Asia (RGRFSA) for the management of identified fisheries issues in the SCS Project’s suite of coral reef, seagrass, mangrove, wetland, and multiple habitat demonstration sites. This work also intends to drive collaboration between fisheries and environment agencies, various levels of government, and other stakeholders in the implementation of actions focused on developing best practice in integrated fisheries and habitat management in the region.
 
It is aimed that this activity will make a substantial contribution to the achievement of the overall goals of the SCS Project, which are:
"to create an environment at the regional level, in which collaboration and partnership in addressing environmental problems of the South China Sea, between all stakeholders, and at all levels is fostered and encouraged; and to enhance the capacity of the participating governments to integrate environmental considerations into national development planning."
