Surveys of Larval and Juvenile Fish

Participants in the UNEP/GEF South China Sea Project – SEAFDEC Regional Training Workshop on Larval Fish Identification and Fish Early Life History Science investigated the catch characteristics of commercial push net fishing operations in the coastal areas of the upper Gulf of Thailand. Specifically this included the collection of information and data relating to the species and size selectivity of push nets adjacent to seagrass meadows. This provided participants with practical at-sea experience in the collection of data aboard commercial fishing vessels. Participants also gained experience in the conduct of fish egg and larvae surveys aboard M.V. SEAFDEC 2 during a cruise from Bangkok to the waters off Pattaya, Thailand. The results of the studies conducted by small groups of participants can be accessed by following the links below.
