DENR Issues New Policy for the Sustainable Management of Philippine Wild Flora
 

Aug 2008 -With the end in view of ensuring that sustainable practices are adopted in the trade of Philippine plants, Secretary Jose L. Atienza,Jr recently signed DENR Administrative Order 2008-08 entitled "Guidelines on Self-Regulation of the Floriculture Industry for the Sustainable Management of Philippine Wild Flora".

The floriculture industry is expected to work closely with the DENR on the accreditation of individuals or establishments engaged in the propagation of wild plants like orchids, ferns, pitcher plants, etc. for trade purposes.Under the new guidelines, accredited individuals or establishments can trade their propagated plants. The wild plants shall be kept and used only as mother plants for propagation.[DAO 2008-08]
